By in large, when most find out that I've written and published a book, most folks reaction is to ask the question, “How long did it take you to write it.” After telling them the most common follow up is. "Man, I've always wanted to write a book. I have great idea for a story." or “I could write a book about my life.”
And I ask, "Why haven't you?"
And without fail everyone's response is. "I don't know where to start."
Well, let me drop some sage wisdom on all of you inspiring poets, novelists, lyricists, and all-round writers.
“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”
-Lao Tzu
And that proverbial single step on this daunting journey to crafting worlds with words, is to just start writing. That's it. Just put pen to paper and get to it.
Now you don't have to shoot for perfection here. Just jot down whatever comes to mind. Maybe it's a theme. Maybe it's the name of a character. A person, place, or thing. A Possible book title. Anything!
And once you have all these things written down, you can start to put them together like the pieces of a puzzle until you have your written work. From there is when you start to worry about the small details. But first and fore most....
Start writing.
